Happy Thanksgiving!
Thanksgiving Day in the United States started as a way of giving thanks to food collected from a good harvest or problems that were fixed. It originated in 1621 and was a religious festival, but is now largely secular. It is now a holiday on the fourth Thursday of November.

Parade Route
The parade begins at Sligo and Georgia Avenues and ends at Cedar Lane in Silver Spring,
Celebrate Thanksgiving with a parade in the heart of Silver Spring. The parade will include 50-foot balloons, floats that promote the Silver Spring Arts & Entertainment District, The Washington Redskins Marching Band, The Greater Overbrook String Band from Philadelphia, local high school bands from Montgomery Blair, Eubie Blake and Einstein, mounted police, Shriners, fire engines, antique cars, trained dogs, other marching and dancing groups and a special visit from Santa. The parade will be broadcast live on News Channel 8 from 10 a.m. to noon with ABC 7 Meteorologist Brian van de Graaff as Master of Ceremonies. Montgomery County Executive Isiah Leggett will serve as Grand Marshal.
